Big players set to invest TOWNSVILLE BULLETIN | November 19th, 2011 TWO companies servicing the industrial and construction sector have made big investments in Townsville. International construction, environmental and industrial equipment supplier, Vermeer, has opened its fifth Australian outlet at 671 Ingham Road, Mount St John. The company has managed a flying start, selling a $500,000 Vermeer drill rig to Innisfail-based horizontal directional drilling and utility construction company JR & LM Trackson Pty Ltd, which is also expanding further in North Queensland. Vermeer Townsville representative Nigel Dobier said the company already had a large customer base in the region and the establishment of a new office, spare parts and service depot at Mount St John was aimed at providing quality parts and service to a growing customer base. "I think we are going to see pretty rapid growth for this facility in the next 12 months," Mr Dobier said. "The mining industry is a massive factor in Townsville as well as the military and tourism." Colliers International Townsville agent Neville Smith, who negotiated a long-term lease for the new outlet, said it was good to see big firms like Vermeer take an expanded presence in the market. Trackson CEO Jeff Trackson said their new acquisition, a Vermeer D36x50 Series Two Navigator, was their fifteenth directional drilling machine and would be used primarily in the Townsville area. "We have added this drill to update our fleet with the most current unit," Mr Trackson said. "We are looking at investing further into Townsville. "We have established depots in Brisbane, Cairns and Mackay outside of our home depot of Innisfail. "Townsville is of great potential to further grow our business." Trackson provides underground service installations to a range of government departments and councils as well as commercial organisations. The company has experience in utility construction including water and sewer, telecommunications, electrical and gas. The North Queensland Newspaper Company Pty Ltd Copyright © January 2007
