Tools For Your Trade

Vermeer Sales & Service Pty Ltd is proud to be one of the registered suppliers of TOOLS FOR YOUR TRADE Initiative which provided by the Australian Government to support the New Apprentices. This initiative is available at Vermeer Dealership located in QLD, NSW, VIC and SA, for more information please call the Parts Counter of your Local Dealership or see the following information provided by www.toolsforyourtrade.com.au

How does the Initiative work?

Australian Apprentices who start in an Australian Apprenticeship from 1 July 2005 in an eligible trade occupation experiencing skills needs will receive a tool kit voucher after completing the first three months of their Australian Apprenticeship.

The tool kit will be provided to the Australian Apprentice’s employer. The employer will make the kit available to the Australian Apprentice to use and the Australian Apprentice will be entitled to keep the kit after they have completed a further six months. If the apprentice leaves before this time, the employer can keep the tools for the use of other apprentices or pre-vocational and work experience students.

Overview of the TFYT process:

  • Tools suppliers throughout Australia can log on to the TFYT website and complete registration electronically, or else they can register over the telephone.
  • The TFYT team will contact employers after an Australian Apprentice has completed three months of their Australian Apprenticeship to verify eligibility (i.e. skills shortage trade as defined in the National Skills Needs List).
  • The employer of eligible Australian Apprentices receives a plastic voucher to the value of $800 which can be presented to any registered tools supplier.
  • The plastic voucher expires after three months, during which time it is expected that the employer will have purchased the $800 tool kit.
  • The employer can use more than one supplier to purchase the tools.
  • When the employer has purchased the tools, the supplier seeks reimbursement from the TFYT team.
  • After the ninth month of the Australian Apprenticeship, the tool kit becomes the property of the Australian Apprentice.
  • The TFYT team conducts a verification process to ensure that the Australian Apprentice has received the tools.
  • A formal disputes handling process is available on the TFYT website - together with a complaints proforma.

The first tool kits will be able to be purchased after 1 October 2005.

How many Australian Apprentices will receive this benefit?

An estimated 34,000 Australian Apprentices will receive a tool kit each year.

When does it start?

The Tools For Your Trade Initiative started from 1 July 2005 for eligible Australian Apprentices. Apprentices who start their Australian Apprenticeship on 1 July will have their tool kits purchased from 1 October 2005 and will be entitled to keep them when they have completed nine months of their Australian Apprenticeship.

What will the tool kit consist of?

The employer and the Australian Apprentice will choose a tool kit which is most appropriate to the Australian Apprentice and the trade.
